July 4, 2026 marked the 250th anniversary of the official adoption of the Declaration of Independence for the United States. Celebrations took place all over America and around the world to commemorate the occasion. Fireworks displays and cookouts ruled the land.
Amidst the celebration, however, I could not fail to consider so many who live in the United States and enjoy all the unbelievable privileges offered here and yet are not truly free. There are so many things that can limit our freedom: debt, health concerns, toxic relationships, fear, anxiety, loneliness, the list continues. The world, even here in America, can be such a hard place.
While we experience so many incredible blessings here for which many have given their lives, even in a country as amazing as America; we are not truly free apart from God. True freedom is not based on where you live. It is only found in Christ and also came at an incomprehensible cost. John 8:36 says “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
So in all the hoopla of this incredible year for our country, our prayer is that everyone will find eternal freedom in Christ! Through Him, someday we will experience a life where we are truly free from all the things we fight against in this present life.
