I am a huge fan of the seasons. When God decided He wanted to create four distinct periods of time each year, He had me in mind. Of course, I have my favs and I like winter the least, but I really do enjoy each season for its own distinct qualities.

My family will tell you that I have décor that I switch out each year to represent the current season. I love my winter dishes, and tulip decorations for spring. I have really cute pink flamingo and sea turtle decorations for summer; and I love mums and pumpkins for fall. I always look forward to changing out the decorations and giving my patio and home a fun “new” look.

As I have gotten older, I have started to savor each season with new perspective. I am not a person who runs out and grabs my pumpkin spice latte on September 1st. Fall does not start until September 22 and I am going to sip my iced beverages and wear my flip flops until the last second of summer has been soaked up. Now on September 23 a literal pumpkin farm will be present in my yard so watch out!

This summer has caused me to reflect deeply on the things I have missed while rushing to enjoy the next thing. I have truly worked to savor the beauty of each day. Things like sitting on my patio and watching our sweet little hummingbirds come and go. Time when my children are not at school and soccer and work but were simply home doing what they do. I have really treasured casual meals together on paper plates and walks with my spouse in the neighborhood.

God has provided so many amazing expressions of His deep love for each of us and we don’t have to go somewhere special to enjoy them. They are all here, built into the basic daily moments of life. He is simply calling us to taste them! Psalm 34:8 says, “Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”
