Trump Accounts officially opened for contributions on July 4, 2026.
Children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, are eligible for a one-time $1,000 contribution into their Trump Accounts, regardless of family income. A parent or guardian must claim it by filing IRS Form 4547. The deadline runs through December 31 of the year that the child turns 17.
Other ways to fund:
Anyone can contribute up to $5,000 per year to these accounts. Employers can also contribute and “match” funds contributed by employees. Of the $5,000 per year limit, employers can fill up to $2,500. The cap will be inflation-indexed starting in 2027.
Other things to consider:
Rulings on “gift-tax” implications for funding Trump Accounts are still pending. Keeping accurate records is going to be vital. Personal contributions are after-tax. The other contributions will be pre-tax including the federal seed and employer matches. These will be taxed differently when withdrawn so accurate records will be a necessity.
